Universal Avionics: Rise in LPVs Spurs 40% Growth in FMS Upgrades

UA-FMS

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND - May 29, 2018 – Universal Avionics (UA) is continuing to see a strong interest in SBAS-FMS upgrades as NextGen and SESAR initiatives ramp up. The company saw a 40 percent growth in SBAS-FMS upgrades from Quarter 1 to Quarter 4 in 2017.

"Our Authorized Dealers/Integrators and operators are seeing the value in upgrading to a UA SBAS-FMS versus other standalone solutions as it provides other key benefits in support of NextGen and SESAR initiatives," said Robert Clare, UA Director of Sales. "Our family of SBAS-FMSs ensure compliance with P-RNAV and are a key element of PBN and RNP/RNAV," he added. "They are also a main component in our FANS 1/A+ solution."

As Clare mentions above, UA's SBAS-FMSs provide important operator benefits such as:

  • Enhanced safety provided with the latest TSO'd more accurate SBAS and GPS information to the onboard TAWS/EGPWS and TCAS
  • Fuel savings via more direct routing and direct approaches that eliminate the step-down type approaches
  • Ability to provide shorter routing to secondary airports due to adverse weather conditions

With increasing airspace congestion, SBAS is becoming an extremely valuable technology for European aircraft operators. Throughout Europe, there are already more than 440 EGNOS-based approaches at over 220 airports, and that number continues to grow.

UA's SBAS-FMS is the first step in preparing for the FAA's NextGen and Europe's SESAR. Four FMS models offer installation flexibility and are certified on over 50 aircraft types, making the UA SBAS-FMS family one of the most diverse options available on the market today. All models are compatible with the regional SBAS around the world: EGNOS (Europe), WAAS (North America), MSAS (Japan) and GAGAN (India).
